This Cancellation Policy explains how guest cancellations, reservation changes and Host cancellations are handled. The property-specific cancellation terms shown before payment are part of the reservation and control if they differ from this default policy.
1. Default guest cancellation schedule
Unless a different policy is clearly displayed at checkout:
• Cancel 30 or more calendar days before scheduled check-in: 100% refund of amounts paid, less any clearly disclosed nonrefundable third-party charge permitted by law.
• Cancel 14 to 29 calendar days before scheduled check-in: 50% refund of the lodging charges. Refundable taxes and unused cleaning fees will also be returned.
• Cancel fewer than 14 calendar days before scheduled check-in: no refund of lodging charges. Refundable taxes and unused cleaning fees will be returned when required or applicable.
• No-show or early departure: no refund for unused nights or services.
Cancellation deadlines use the property’s local time and the scheduled check-in time stated in the confirmation.
2. How to cancel
Submit the cancellation through your BitsAndPlaces account or contact [INSERT CUSTOMER-SERVICE EMAIL]. A cancellation is effective when BitsAndPlaces records it and sends written confirmation. Telling the Host, cleaner or another third party does not complete a cancellation unless BitsAndPlaces confirms it.
3. Reservation changes
A request to change dates, property, guest count, pets or other material terms is subject to availability and approval. If approved, the reservation will be repriced using the rates, taxes and fees applicable to the revised stay. If the change is not approved, the original reservation remains in effect unless cancelled under this policy.
4. Bitcoin-linked Promotion
Cancelled, fully refunded, no-show, fraudulent, chargeback or unpaid reservations do not qualify for the Bitcoin-linked promotional rebate. For a partially refunded reservation, eligibility may be recalculated using only the retained Eligible Booking Amount. A material change may create a new booking reference price, as disclosed when the change is accepted.
5. Host or BitsAndPlaces cancellation
If the Host or BitsAndPlaces cancels a confirmed reservation because the property is unavailable, unsafe, unlawful to occupy or materially unsuitable, the guest will receive a refund of amounts paid for the affected reservation. With the guest’s agreement, we may instead apply those funds to a reasonable alternative property.
Unless required by law or expressly agreed in writing, reimbursement is limited to amounts paid through BitsAndPlaces for the affected reservation and does not include airfare, transportation, missed work or other indirect costs. Travel insurance is recommended.
6. Severe weather and events beyond reasonable control
Ordinary weather, travel delays, personal illness, changes in plans and disappointment with local conditions do not automatically create a refund right. When a government order, declared emergency, mandatory evacuation, prolonged utility failure or other extraordinary event makes the property legally inaccessible or uninhabitable, BitsAndPlaces will review the circumstances, applicable law, insurance and property-specific terms to determine the available refund, credit or rebooking option.
7. Refund timing
Approved refunds are generally initiated within 10 business days. The time required for the credit to appear depends on Stripe, the card network and the guest’s financial institution.
8. Chargebacks
Contact us first if you believe a charge is incorrect. Filing a chargeback does not expand the cancellation rights stated in this policy. We may provide the booking confirmation, acceptance records, communications and other relevant evidence to the payment processor when responding to a dispute.
